Carbide End Mill Blanks
Kennametal's tungsten carbide rod blanks for the tool fabrication market are available in a wide selection of micro-grain and sub-micron grades. They are engineered to stand up to thermal extremes, vibration, and impact wear.
Coining
Because coining is a high-impact process, Kennametal uses grades with excellent impact and deformation resistance. We can also supply special EDM treated grades when supplying coining die blanks.
Drawing
Kennametal's high-quality, pit-free materials are used to draw automotive parts to size. Additives of titanium carbide prevent galling or pickup of the workpiece material on to the tool. This leaves the workpiece with a smooth, even finish.
Heading
Operations like heading and trapped extrusion cause severe impact loads to tooling. Kennametal's high impact grades can handle this severe loading and resist deformation and wear.
Slitting
Slitting of steel sheet requires precision-ground knives made with carbide grades closely balancing toughness and wear properties. Kennametal offers premium blanks and finished ground knives.

Swaging
Kennametal's high-quality tungsten carbide grades are used on swaging machines that form injection and suture needles. The carbide tool must be pit free and polished to a mirror finish. The swage die must be a high-impact strength grade to tolerate the severe and continuous pounding inherent in this application.
