Carlos M. Cardoso

Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer
Kennametal Inc.

Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Cardoso joined Kennametal Inc. in April 2003.

Before serving in his current role with Kennametal, Mr. Cardoso served as the company’s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In this position, he was responsible for Kennametal's Metalworking Solutions and Services and Advanced Materials Solutions businesses, representing 90% of the company’s total revenues.

Mr. Cardoso has an extensive global background having lived and worked on three continents. Before joining Kennametal, Mr. Cardoso served as President of the $1.3 billion Pump Division of Flowserve Corporation. This division accounted for 70% of total company revenues with 5,000 employees worldwide. Previously, Mr. Cardoso spent over six years with Honeywell / AlliedSignal where he held several positions of increasing responsibility including; Vice President and General Manager of Engine Systems and Accessories (ESA), Vice President and General Manager of Marketing Sales and Service Aerospace Services, and Vice President Operations for Aerospace Equipment Systems.

Prior to Honeywell / AlliedSignal, Mr. Cardoso was Vice President Manufacturing Operations for Colt Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut where he served as a key member of the Executive Team. Early in his career he also owned and operated a machine shop.

Mr. Cardoso has been named one of America’s “Best Chief Executive Officers” by Institutional Investor Magazine. He is Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Manufacturers Alliance / MAPI, and is a member of The Stanley Black & Decker Board of Directors and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Board of Directors. Additionally, he is the co-chair of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Manufacturing Council, a Team Pennsylvania Foundation-led initiative, helping to identify and prioritize top issues to influence, sustain and advance manufacturing in the commonwealth.

Carlos also serves on the Fairfield University Charles F. Dolan School of Business Advisory Council, the board of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Council.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, a master’s degree in management from the Hartford Graduate Center, and an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He also participated in the Executive Management Program at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and completed the AlliedSignal Executive Management Program in 1998. Mr. Cardoso is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.  He and his wife reside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and have two children.
